Almond Mulcher
One Pass. Floor Clean.
TMC Cancela orchard shredders mulch almond pruning to fine, flat residue. Sweepers run clean. Harvest moves.
- Shreds 15mm to 60mm pruning wood
- Lays flat — no sweeper jams
- Breaks hull rot and shot hole cycle
- Holds moisture in the tree line

SHAKE-AND-SWEEP HARVEST DEMANDS A CLEAN FLOOR
Why almond orchards need mulching
Australia is the world's second-largest almond producer. Sunraysia, the Riverland, and the Riverina drive the crop.
Almonds are mechanically harvested. Shakers dislodge nuts, sweepers windrow them, pickup harvesters collect from the ground. Every step depends on a clean, flat floor.
Annual pruning drops 15–60mm branches across the inter-row. Left whole, they jam sweepers, tangle pickup belts, and contaminate the load.

Mulch by August or pay at harvest
Australian almond harvest runs February–March. Pruning waste must be mulched June–August so the residue settles flat and starts breaking down before shake. Standard slashers leave coarse chunks that catch sweeper tines. TMC Cancela shredders produce fine, even output that lays flat against the soil — clean rows instead of constant blockages.

Disease lives in the debris
Hull rot (Rhizopus, Aspergillus) and shot hole (Wilsonomyces carpophilus) overwinter on dead pruning wood. Mulching destroys the physical structure these pathogens need to persist.
Fine shredded material decomposes through winter. Fewer overwintering sites mean a lower spore load at budburst — and less spray pressure through the season.

Water stays in the root zone
Almond orchards sit in the Murray-Darling Basin where every megalitre is allocated.
A 50–75mm mulch layer in the tree line shades the soil and slows evaporation between irrigation cycles. Drip and micro-sprinkler systems get the biggest gain — the mulch sits directly over the wetted zone.
Fine TMC Cancela mulch creates an even cover that holds moisture without going anaerobic.
