Barley Grass Mulcher
One Pass. Awns Down.
TMC Cancela mulchers destroy barley grass before seed set. Stock protected. Seed bank shrinks.
- Destroys plants before awns harden
- Eliminates seed set this season
- Wide working widths for broadacre
- Mulch suppresses next germination

AWNS BLIND SHEEP — TIMING IS EVERYTHING
Why barley grass demands mulching
Barley grass (Hordeum leporinum) seed awns penetrate eye membranes and ear canals of sheep, causing blindness and infection. Carcass downgrades and stock losses follow.
The plant seeds prolifically each spring. One missed season produces a soil seed bank that re-emerges every autumn for years.

Mulch before awns harden
Mulching at flowering — before awns harden — destroys the plant and the developing seed at once. Wait until awns are mature and you're spreading viable seed instead of stopping it.

Broadacre coverage at the right window
The window between flower and hard awn is roughly 2–3 weeks. Wide working widths matter. The TGS and TGI cover hundreds of hectares per day on standard PTO tractors.
Mulched residue lays flat and feeds the soil. Cleared paddocks are ready for oversowing with competitive pasture before the next autumn break.

Seed bank reduction
Each year of pre-seed-set mulching reduces the soil seed bank. After 2–3 consecutive seasons the regeneration pressure drops sharply.
The mulch layer also smothers germinating seedlings on contact — additional pressure on top of the missed seed set.
