Why corn stubble demands mulching
Corn stalks at 20–40mm diameter exceed standard slasher capacity. Standing residue persists through fallow and blocks no-till seeders the following season.
Corn earworm (Helicoverpa zea) and stalk rot (Fusarium, Diplodia) overwinter in intact residue. Each new corn or sorghum crop inherits the inoculum.
