5 MILLION HECTARES INFESTED
Why lantana demands mulching
Lantana camara is a Weed of National Significance. It infests 5 million hectares across QLD, NSW, and northern Australia. Stems run 10–150mm. Plants form impenetrable thickets up to 5m tall.
The plant is allelopathic — it poisons soil against native species. Birds spread berries widely. Manual clearing is dangerous: brittle stems whip back at the operator.

Tracked equipment for slope
Lantana concentrates on slopes, gullies, and creek banks where wheeled equipment can't safely work. Tracked excavators with the THB or THK reach slopes to 45 degrees while keeping the operator safe in the cab.

Selective clearing preserves native bush
Lantana invades native bushland gradually. Whole-of-area clearing destroys remnant natives along with the weed.
Excavator-mounted heads target individual lantana clumps with boom precision. Native trees, shrubs, and ground cover stay intact between treated patches.

Mulch suppresses regrowth
Lantana resprouts from cut stumps and root fragments. The mulch blanket left by a TMC Cancela head smothers regrowth and shades germinating seedlings beneath.
Follow-up monitoring at 6–12 months catches the survivors before they re-establish.
