80,000 HECTARES OF TOP END FLOODPLAIN
Why mimosa demands mulching
Mimosa pigra (giant sensitive plant) is a Weed of National Significance. It infests 80,000+ hectares of NT and QLD floodplains. Plants reach 6m tall with thorny stems carrying recurved 8mm prickles.
The species spreads aggressively along water courses. Each plant drops thousands of viable seeds. Once established, it forms impenetrable thickets that block stock movement and choke wetland ecosystems.

Hardox + armoured hoses
TMC Cancela builds mimosa-capable heads with Hardox steel bodies and armoured hose routing. Recurved prickles deflect off the heavy-gauge construction. Hydraulic lines survive thorn impact.

Floodplain reach via excavator
Mimosa concentrates on wet floodplain margins where wheeled equipment bogs. Excavator-mounted THB and THK reach from firm ground above the wet zone.
The boom places the head into the thicket without driving the carrier through the floodplain. The work continues through the wet season when ground-based clearing is impossible.

Seed bank suppression
Mimosa seeds remain viable in soil for 23+ years. Mechanical clearing alone leaves the seed bank intact.
The mulch blanket left after a TMC Cancela pass blocks light to germinating seedlings. Combined with annual follow-up monitoring, regeneration pressure drops over 3–5 years.
