OLIVE WOOD IS ROCK-HARD
Why olive groves need mulching
Olive (Olea europaea) wood density runs 800–900 kg/m³ — among the densest commercial species in Australian horticulture. Pruning generates 15mm tip-wood through to 150mm renovation cuts.
Standard slashers and flail mowers stall on the heavier material. Stacked pruning blocks trunk-shaker harvest equipment and harbours olive lace bug, scale, and Verticillium wilt.

Carbide-tipped hammers for density
TMC Cancela orchard shredders carry carbide-tipped hammers rated for olive wood density. The TGS and TGI handle the heavier renovation cuts. The TMH semi-forestry handles end-of-life trunk removal.

Trunk-shaker harvest demands clean floors
Mechanical olive harvest runs on trunk shakers that drop fruit onto canopy or ground catchers. Pruning waste between rows blocks the shaker carrier and contaminates the catch.
A clean, even floor is non-negotiable for efficient mechanical harvest at modern olive operation scale.

Long-lasting mulch
Olive mulch is dense and slow to decompose — 2–3 seasons of weed suppression from a single application.
Less herbicide use across the season. More moisture retention in the drip zone.
