Sheoak Mulcher
One Pass. Stand Thinned.
TMC Cancela mulchers grind sheoak at 700–900 kg/m³ — selective thinning preserves habitat. Pasture restored.
- Grinds 700–900 kg/m³ wood density
- Selective stem-by-stem clearing
- Processes needle litter and timber
- Restores shaded-out pasture grasses

DENSE STANDS CHOKE PASTURE
Why sheoak demands mulching
Allocasuarina and Casuarina species form dense closed canopies. Wood density runs 700–900 kg/m³ — among the hardest Australian native timbers.
Beneath the canopy, allelopathic needle litter suppresses pasture grasses. Carrying capacity drops to zero. Birds and ground fauna lose habitat to the closed structure.

Selective thinning preserves habitat
Excavator-mounted heads (THB, THK) target individual sheoak stems for processing. Mature habitat trees stay. Regrowth and crowded stems go.

Carbide for hardwood density
Sheoak wood density approaches ironbark territory. Standard carbide tips wear faster than on softer eucalypts.
The TFS2, TFK, and TFX carry carbide grades rated for hardwood density. Tooth replacement budgets need adjustment but tooth life remains predictable.

Pasture recovery
Open sheoak woodland with grassy understorey runs cattle and sheep at productive rates. Closed sheoak carries nothing.
Selective thinning to ~30–50 stems per hectare opens the canopy enough for native and introduced grasses to recover. Stocking rates climb back over 2–3 seasons.
