Why tea tree demands mulching
Melaleuca species (paperbark, tea tree, broombush) form dense scrub across coastal and wetland margins. Stems run 10–60mm in dense scrub up to 500mm in mature paperbark.
Conventional clearing — slashing, manual cutting — fails on the flexible stems. The plants bend away from cutting blades and spring back.

High-RPM drum for flexible stems
TMC Cancela mulcher drums run at high RPM with fixed-position carbide tips. The cutting speed exceeds the stem's ability to deflect. Flexible tea tree stems shred cleanly.
Low ground pressure for swamp work
Tea tree concentrates on saturated coastal and wetland soils. Wheeled equipment bogs immediately. Standard tracked equipment runs ground pressures of 7–10 psi — still too high for sustained swamp work.
Specialised low-pressure tracks under the THE or THB excavator deliver under 5 psi ground pressure. The carrier floats on saturated ground while the boom places the head into the scrub.

Sandy coastal soils
Tea tree on coastal sand poses an additional challenge — soil disturbance triggers wind erosion. Mulching leaves the soil structure intact and the mulch blanket holds the surface against wind.
