Why vegetable beds demand mulching
Brassicas, alliums, cucurbits, and solanums all carry crop-specific pathogens. Clubroot (Plasmodiophora brassicae), bacterial wilt (Erwinia), Sclerotinia, and Pythium all overwinter in crop residue.
