Why wattle demands mulching
Australian Acacia species cover every climate zone. 1,000+ species. Dozens cause land management problems. Wood density runs 550–700 kg/m³.
Each plant drops thousands of hard-coated seeds that stay viable in soil for 50+ years. Cut a stump and it throws 10–20 vigorous coppice shoots within weeks.

Below-soil grinding kills coppice
A TMC Cancela mulcher grinds stems and stump below ground level. No regrowth from intact root crowns. The mulch blanket suppresses germinating seedlings beneath.
Mulch + pasture establishment
Wattle fixes atmospheric nitrogen through bacterial root nodules. The mulched residue is high in N and decomposes fast.
Aggressive pasture re-establishment — phalaris, cocksfoot, native grasses — uses that nitrogen instead of feeding more wattle seedlings.

Monitor for 3–5 years
The seed bank persists 20–50+ years. Annual spot-spray or follow-up mulching keeps the new germination cohort suppressed.
