Banana Mulcher
One Pass. Plantation Reset.
TMC Cancela mulchers shred banana pseudostems on-site — fibrous, 80% moisture, 300mm thick. TR4 reservoir gone. Weevil habitat gone.
- Shreds 150mm to 300mm pseudostems
- Destroys Panama TR4 reservoir on-site
- Eliminates banana weevil borer harbourage
- Returns nutrients 4–5x faster than rotting

10,000 PSEUDOSTEMS PER HECTARE
Why banana plantations need mulching
Each banana plant produces one fruiting pseudostem and dies. A hectare drops 2,000–10,000 pseudostems per year. Stems run 150–300mm thick at 80%+ moisture content.
Standard slashers and flail mowers jam on the fibrous material. Dead pseudostems left standing harbour banana weevil borer (Cosmopolites sordidus) and provide a Panama disease (Fusarium TR4) reservoir.

Process where it falls
A TMC Cancela mulcher shreds pseudostems where they fall. No transport off the plantation. The fibrous mass exits as fine mulch that decomposes in weeks — not months.

TR4 biosecurity demands on-site processing
Panama TR4 (Tropical Race 4) is the most destructive banana disease on earth. Once a plantation is infected, every kilogram of plant material moved off-site risks spreading the pathogen to clean ground.
Mulching contains the problem within the row. The shredded material decomposes in place. Trucks, loaders, and second handling — all gone.

Nutrient cycling on the bed
Banana pseudostems carry high potassium and water content — exactly what the next plant cycle needs.
Fine mulch breaks down within weeks under tropical conditions. Nutrients return to the root zone before the next ratoon flush. The TGS and TGI handle the volume across full rows.
